PaintingsTension is a welcome partner in my creative process. Artwork is often launched with abandon as pigment is playfully pushed or poured to the point of losing control over the subject.
The abstract under-painting is maintained while areas and edges are adjusted and explored for nuance and definition. My hope is that the art is powerful from a distance yet fascinating close-up. My focus is less about ‘what’ is painted than it is about ‘how’ it is painted. Working with clay at college certainly influenced my love of texture, whether implied in watercolors or created in acrylic collage. It’s fun to choose which medium best suits my goals. Discovering that acrylics dry quickly and are not suited to leisurely plein-air painting, I find watercolor perfect for sketching in a canoe, creating travel journals, and playing with flowing pigment. |
